AIIB aims to double annual financing by 2030 at Doha summit

The 11th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) concluded in Doha, Qatar. During the session, AIIB President Zou Jiayi announced a strategic goal to nearly double the bank’s annual financing to approximately €17.6 billion (or $20 billion) by 2030.

The bank intends to focus on infrastructure that promotes climate resilience, renewable energy, digital transformation, and regional connectivity. In 2025, the AIIB approved €9.4 billion for 57 projects, with 71% of those funds supporting climate-positive outcomes. The institution continues to emphasize multilateralism, working alongside the World Bank, the African Development Bank, and other major entities to pool resources and expertise.

Key diplomatic developments included Mauritania’s official admission to the bank and high-level bilateral meetings involving officials from Algeria, Kuwait, and Qatar to discuss economic cooperation and capacity building. Additionally, Azerbaijan was officially announced as the host for the bank’s 12th Annual Meeting in 2027.
