AIIMS Jodhpur doctors strike after resident doctor's death

Resident doctors at AIIMS Jodhpur have launched an indefinite strike following the death of 31-year-old anesthesia resident Dr. Rajnaresh Yadav. Dr. Yadav was found unconscious in a hospital washroom while on duty; preliminary reports suggest a possible injection overdose, though the exact cause of death is pending investigation.

Protesting doctors have issued several demands, including a public apology from the institution, the resignation of Director Dr. Govardhan Dutt Puri, and 5 crore rupees in compensation for the deceased's family. The medical staff also expressed severe grievances regarding working conditions, specifically citing excessive workloads and long duty hours, such as 36-hour shifts.

The strike has led to the suspension of regular outpatient department (OPD) services, though emergency surgeries and critical care remain operational. Demonstrations have included candle marches and silent protests where students and doctors covered their mouths with tape to signal their distress.
