AIIMS Nagpur doctors end protest after security assurances

Resident doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Nagpur have ended their protests following assurances of enhanced security from hospital administration and local police. The agitation was triggered by an alleged assault on a junior resident doctor inside an ICU on September 22, involving four individuals following the death of a patient's relative.

The Resident Doctors Association (RDA) demanded that the institute adopt a ‘no special treatment policy’ to combat ‘VIP culture,’ alleging that patients frequently use political connections to intimidate staff or seek preferential treatment. The association also requested that the institute itself file formal complaints in cases of violence against medical personnel.

Nagpur Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangre Patil met with RDA members and promised strict action against the accused and increased security measures at the hospital. A case has been registered against the identified suspects under the Maharashtra Medicare Service Persons and Medicare Service Institutions Act.
