Ailanthus proposes 400-unit residential tower in Brooklyn

Ailanthus, a developer specializing in affordable and mixed-income housing, has filed a rezoning application with the New York City Department of City Planning for 424 Hoyt Street in the Gowanus neighborhood of Brooklyn.

The proposal outlines the construction of a 17-story, 175-foot-tall mixed-use residential building. If approved, the development would include 400 apartment units, with 100 to 120 designated as affordable housing. The project also plans to incorporate a 46,000-square-foot public school and 14,000 square feet of commercial retail space.

The site currently houses a one-story automotive repair building and a vehicle storage facility. Ailanthus holds a ground lease at the location from Two Trees Management. The application must undergo several regulatory approval steps before the project can proceed.
