Aimilios Cheilakis discusses masculinity and personal life
Greek actor Aimilios Cheilakis appeared on the ERT1 program ‘Proian se eidon’, where he discussed his perspectives on violence, masculinity, and his personal life.
Cheilakis addressed the concept of violence, noting that it is not limited to physical actions but includes verbal abuse. He critiqued patriarchal perceptions that link male identity to strength and the suppression of emotion, stating that such views incorrectly suggest boys should not cry and are inherently prone to violence. He also observed that some colleagues in the theater industry replicate harsh behavioral patterns learned from strict directors of the 1980s and 1990s.
Regarding his personal life, Cheilakis spoke about his 22-year relationship with Athina Maximou. He expressed a desire to eventually spend more time in Kythira, seeking a peaceful environment to spend his later years away from the pressure of constant self-validation.
