AIMIM Announces Contesting Rajasthan Municipal and Panchayat Elections

The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), led by Asaduddin Owaisi, announced it will field candidates in the upcoming Panchayat and municipal body elections in Rajasthan. The decision, approved by Owaisi after a proposal by state president Jamil Khan, marks the party’s first organized attempt at grassroots contests in the state.

AIMIM plans to nominate official party candidates as well as support additional contenders, focusing on local issues, public rights, and civic concerns. Party officials said they will launch a public outreach campaign to coordinate district units and mobilise workers. The elections have traditionally been dominated by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress, and observers note that AIMIM’s entry could influence dynamics in urban and minority‑concentrated local bodies.
