AIMIM contests 21 seats in Andhra Pradesh municipal elections

The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has entered the Andhra Pradesh municipal elections, fielding 21 candidates across several urban local bodies. The party is specifically targeting key leadership roles, including the mayoral post in Kadapa with candidate Shaik Naseem Banu and the municipal chairperson position in Hindupur with former Congress leader Imran Basha.

Contests are spread across multiple municipalities, including Vijayawada, Adoni, Rayadurg, Nandyal, and Penukonda. To bolster the campaign, AIMIM has deployed several sitting MLAs and senior leaders from Hyderabad to coordinate activities in specific wards and divisions. This move follows guidance from party leader Asaduddin Owaisi to focus on areas with established support bases.

Following Supreme Court directions regarding the nomination process, the Andhra Pradesh State Election Commission has rescheduled municipal polling to November 1, with the counting of votes set for November 3.
