AIMX proposes regulated mobile device use in Mexican schools

The Mexican Internet Association (AIMX) has issued a formal stance regarding a proposal by Secretary of Public Education Mario Delgado to restrict the use of mobile devices during school hours. While AIMX acknowledges scientific evidence regarding the negative impacts of excessive screen time on the neurocognitive development and mental health of minors, the organization advocates for a nuanced approach.

AIMX argues for a distinction between recreational use and educational use. The association contends that an absolute ban would be impractical and counterproductive, as mobile devices serve as essential tools for real-time research, pedagogical innovation, and personalized learning through artificial intelligence. Furthermore, the organization warns that restricting device access for teachers could infringe upon labor rights by hindering their ability to manage administrative tasks and communicate with parents and staff during the school day.
