Aino Aalto: Play highlights architect's legacy in Jyväskylä
The Jyväskylä City Theatre is presenting the play ‘Aino A.’, written by Kati Kaartinen and based on Jari Järvelä’s novel. The production aims to highlight the historical significance and professional contributions of architect Aino Aalto (1894–1949).
As Finland seeks to have 13 sites designed by Alvar Aalto included in the UNESCO World Heritage list by 2026, there is a growing movement to recognize the essential roles played by Aino Aalto and Elisa Aalto. The play portrays Aino Aalto not only as an independent architect and visionary but also as an equal partner in a creative marriage, addressing historical tendencies to overlook the contributions of women in such partnerships.
