Ainscough Crane Hire dismantles massive Sunderland telecoms tower

Ainscough Crane Hire has completed the dismantling of a 52-metre telecommunications tower in Sunderland, UK. The project, conducted for infrastructure provider Circet, involved removing a redundant structure at a former EE site.

The 70-tonne tower presented significant engineering difficulties due to a confined site and the discovery of hidden underground telecommunications chambers. To manage these constraints, the team utilized a Liebherr LTM1650-8 650-tonne mobile crane as the primary lift and a Liebherr LTM1500-8 500-tonne crane as a tailing crane.

Engineers successfully navigated the restricted footprint by employing VarioBase® and VarioBallast® technologies, which allowed for adjustable outrigger configurations and variable ballast radius to maintain lifting capacity despite the site's limitations.
