The Ainslie Creek wildfire, estimated at 65,086 hectares, continues to burn out of control in the Fraser Canyon area. As of Sunday morning, August 16, 2026, the fire has advanced approximately 1.2 kilometres and has reached the Alexandra Tunnel.

High fire behaviour has caused significant debris and rockfalls on Highway 1, which remains closed between Toll Road (Yale) and Aspen Road (south of Boston Bar). While Highways 5 and 8 remain open, officials warn they could close without notice. Heavy smoke has reduced visibility, impacting aviation support and crew safety.

Firefighting efforts include structure protection crews, heavy equipment working on containment guards, and helicopter bucketing. An Area Restriction is currently in effect surrounding the wildfire.
