Aios automotive supplier faces insolvency and strike threat
Automotive Integrated Overhead Systems GmbH (Aios), a German supplier of headliners for Mercedes-Benz luxury models, has filed for insolvency. The company, which produces components for the E-Class, S-Class, and Maybach, has applied for insolvency proceedings under self-administration through the Bremen District Court.
Following the announcement, employees have voted overwhelmingly in favor of an indefinite strike, with 97.2 percent of workers supporting industrial action. The potential job losses affect approximately 300 positions across the main site in Überherrn-Altforweiler, as well as smaller facilities in Bremen and Sindelfingen.
IG Metall has criticized the management's attempt to lead the restructuring process, arguing that those responsible for the current financial crisis should not be tasked with the company's recovery. While contracts with Mercedes-Benz are expected to run until 2030, the company has faced increasing economic difficulties, including periods of short-time work in 2024 and 2025.
