Air Albania sued by Eurocontrol over unpaid debts

Eurocontrol, the European Organisation for Air Navigation Safety, has initiated legal proceedings in Albania against the airline Air Albania to recover unpaid debts. The lawsuit, filed for 'fulfillment of obligation,' has been registered with the Court of First Instance in Tirana.

While the exact total amount of the debt is not yet fully specified, reports indicate claims involving approximately 1.2 million euros related to unpaid air corridor and terminal fees. The case is assigned to Judge Flamur Kapllani, with the first hearing scheduled for October 20, 2026.

Air Albania was established in May 2018 with a shareholder structure consisting of Turkish Airlines (49%), MDN Investment/Sinan Idrizi (41%), and the Albanian government (10%). The airline has faced ongoing financial difficulties and legal challenges, including a previous lawsuit from an American leasing company in a British court regarding unpaid rent for two A320-200 aircraft.
