Air Astana completes first flight of Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner
Air Astana’s first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner has completed its initial flight testing at Boeing’s facility in Charleston, South Carolina. The aircraft, registered as EI-KZA, flew from Charleston to San Antonio, Texas, as part of its testing program.
The arrival of the Dreamliner marks a significant milestone in the airline’s fleet modernization strategy. The new aircraft are intended to gradually replace the existing Boeing 767-300ER fleet on long-haul routes, aiming to improve operational efficiency and support the expansion of the carrier's international network.
Air Astana plans to put the first three 787-9s into service in 2027. While the first three aircraft are being acquired through leasing companies—explaining the Irish registration—the airline holds options and purchase rights for up to 18 Dreamliners under a broader agreement with Boeing.
