AIR Campania launches zero‑emission bus service in Benevento
On 1 August, AIR Campania began operating a new urban bus service in Benevento, deploying low‑ and zero‑emission vehicles equipped with Tap&Go ticketing and QR‑code real‑time schedules. The launch was announced at the Campania regional headquarters by President Roberto Fico, Vice‑president for Transport Mario Casillo, Mayor Clemente Mastella and AIR Campania administrator Anthony Acconcia. AIR Campania, which now serves 60 % of the region’s municipalities, highlighted the service as a social‑cohesion tool that connects students, workers and patients to essential services.
The rollout was criticised by the Potere al Popolo party, which argued that new buses alone do not guarantee reliable public transport. The party called for more frequent routes, better peripheral connections, job security for bus workers and a reduction of paid‑parking zones (blue stripes). It also raised concerns about the management of the Calore river and the need for broader regional transport policies.
