Air Canada and United Airlines seek to renew and expand joint venture

Air Canada and United Airlines have signed a deal to renew and expand their joint business agreement for flights between Canada and the United States. The airlines have applied to Transport Canada for regulatory approval of the amended agreement.

As part of the expansion, Air Canada will introduce several new routes for the summer 2027 season, including service from Toronto to Louisville, Montreal to Indianapolis, and Edmonton to Newark. The airline also plans to increase capacity on its Edmonton to San Francisco route using larger Airbus A220 aircraft.

United Airlines will add seasonal service from Newark to St. John’s, as well as new routes from Denver to Ottawa and Quebec City, and Washington, D.C. to Quebec City. Additionally, United plans to increase daily seat capacity between Denver and Winnipeg by 65 per cent.

The partnership, which has been in place since 2022, supports over 1,200 connecting itineraries. Since the inception of the joint venture, the carriers have created 20 new Canada-U.S. routes and served more than 4.3 million passengers jointly.
