Air Canada announces major 2027 international network expansion
Air Canada has announced its most extensive intercontinental expansion to date, scheduled for the summer of 2027. The airline plans to add five new international destinations and seven new routes, significantly increasing its global reach across Europe, Asia, and Latin America.
Key additions include new services from Toronto to Oslo, Norway; Shannon, Ireland; and Nice, France. From Montreal, the airline will launch routes to Basel, Switzerland, and Dubrovnik, Croatia. Additionally, a new year-round service will connect Vancouver to Guangzhou, China. Several existing seasonal routes, such as those to Guatemala City, Lima, and Tenerife, will be converted to year-round operations.
The expansion will utilize new aircraft, including the Airbus A321XLR for certain long-range routes. This strategic growth is expected to create over 1,500 direct jobs by 2028 and increase the airline’s annual contribution to Canada’s GDP by more than $7 billion. The company aims to operate more than 125 international routes, providing up to 169,000 weekly seats to over 85 destinations.
