Air Canada cancels planned 2027 Montreal-Algiers direct flights
Air Canada has removed the planned resumption of its direct flight service between Montréal-Trudeau (YUL) and Algiers-Houari Boumediene (ALG) from its summer 2027 schedule. This decision reverses a previous announcement that the airline intended to restart the route in June 2027 with four weekly rotations using Airbus A330-300 aircraft.
This marks the second cancellation of the route within two years, following a suspension during the 2026 summer season. While the airline previously suggested the interruption was temporary and cited rising fuel costs as a reason for reviewing less profitable routes, the 2027 return has now been officially withdrawn from its flight schedules.
The absence of direct flights impacts the Algerian diaspora in Quebec, as the service allowed travelers to avoid layovers in Europe or elsewhere in North America during peak travel periods. Although Air Canada still offers travel options between Montreal and Algiers on its website, these likely involve connections rather than the direct service originally anticipated.
