Air China flight disruptions affect Beijing-Havana route via Madrid

Air China has implemented frequent schedule changes and temporary cancellations on its flights between Beijing and Havana, which include a technical stop in Madrid. The Chinese Embassy in Cuba issued an alert regarding flights CA865 and CA866, citing “technical reasons” for the adjustments.

While the embassy has not specified the exact nature of these technical issues, reports from affected passengers suggest the disruptions are linked to runway repair work at Nassau Airport in the Bahamas. Air China utilizes Nassau for refueling on the return leg from Havana to Madrid due to the ongoing Jet A-1 aviation fuel shortage in Cuba.

These disruptions significantly impact the Cuban community in Spain, as Air China provides one of the few remaining affordable connections between Madrid and Havana. The only other current alternative, Air Europa, maintains higher ticket prices.
