Air China to resume direct Bucharest-Beijing flights in September 2026

Direct flights between Bucharest and Beijing are set to resume on September 4, 2026, marking a significant milestone in bilateral relations between Romania and China. The new route will be operated by Air China, following a trajectory of Beijing (PEK) – Bucharest (OTP) – Zagreb (ZAG) on a round-trip basis.

The service will operate three times per week, specifically on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. This reconnection aims to reduce travel times by eliminating the need for layovers, thereby facilitating economic cooperation, tourism, and cultural exchanges. Romanian Ambassador to China, Dan-Horia Maxim, described the resumption as a “major diplomatic and economic success” intended to bring communities closer and open new opportunities for dialogue.

The announcement was marked by a ceremony hosted by the Romanian Embassy in Beijing in partnership with the Croatian Embassy and Air China. The resumption of this air corridor is viewed as a revitalization of ties that date back to 1974, when TAROM inaugurated the first direct route between the two nations.
