Air conditioning efficiency issues linked to outdoor unit heat exposure

An experienced air conditioning technician has identified a common reason why air conditioning units may fail to cool a room effectively despite appearing to function normally. While many users suspect issues like low refrigerant gas or compressor failure, a major cause is the outdoor unit being exposed to direct, intense sunlight.

For an air conditioner to work, the indoor unit absorbs heat while the outdoor unit must dissipate that heat into the environment. If the outdoor unit is placed in areas with high heat exposure—such as rooftops, west-facing balconies, or near heat-absorbing concrete walls—it struggles to release heat. This causes the unit to work harder, resulting in weak cooling or an inability to reach the set temperature, especially during peak heatwaves.

Major manufacturers, including Daikin, Samsung, and Mitsubishi Electric, recommend installing outdoor units in well-ventilated areas free from obstructions to ensure efficient heat dissipation.
