Air-e secures financing for Caribbean electrical infrastructure
Air-e Intervenida has signed a contract with China National Machinery Exports and Imports Corporation (CMC) to manage up to 1 trillion Colombian pesos in financing. This agreement aims to modernize and strengthen electrical infrastructure in the Colombian departments of Atlántico, Magdalena, and La Guajira.
The funding is intended for technological upgrades to power substations, the expansion of distribution and transmission networks, and increasing system capacity. The contract spans 60 months and includes a one-year grace period starting from when the financed infrastructure becomes operational, with an annual effective interest rate of 5.2%.
While this agreement seeks to fund future infrastructure, the company continues to face significant financial challenges. Air-e carries obligations exceeding 3.3 trillion pesos. This new financing is distinct from a separate 1.5 trillion peso liquidity plan announced by the Colombian government, which is intended to provide immediate cash flow to the broader electricity sector to prevent systemic failures.
