Air Europa sees record profits in Cuba despite US sanction threats

Air Europa, owned by Globalia, has reported record profits in Cuba between June and September. The airline's decision to maintain operations in Havana despite threats of sanctions from the United States Department of State has allowed it to capture a significant market share.

Following warnings from the Trump administration regarding foreign companies operating in Cuba, several competitors including Iberia, W2Fly, Plus Ultra, and the Italian airline Neos suspended or canceled their operations on the island. This has left Air Europa as the sole Spanish carrier operating flights from Madrid to Cuba.

Despite the risk of US sanctions and the necessity of transiting through American airspace for flights to New York and Miami, the airline continues to operate high-priced flights. Due to local fuel shortages, Air Europa flights currently make stops in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
