Air Force One emergency slide deploys before Trump's flight to Dallas

An emergency evacuation slide on the new Air Force One, a Boeing 747-8 gifted by the Qatari royal family, was accidentally deployed on the tarmac at Joint Base Andrews on September 9, 2026. The incident occurred just before President Donald Trump was scheduled to board the aircraft to travel to Dallas, Texas, for the Republican National Committee’s midterm convention.

While reports indicate that military personnel accidentally triggered the slide, President Trump downplayed the event to reporters, describing it as a routine equipment check to ensure everything works perfectly. The deployment caused a delay of approximately 15 to 20 minutes, during which the President remained aboard Marine One. An older Air Force One aircraft was positioned nearby as a backup option during the incident.

The deployment has renewed scrutiny regarding the safety and security of the new jet, which has previously faced concerns over its lack of certain anti-missile capabilities compared to older models. The aircraft is being used as an interim presidential jet while the administration awaits new Boeing models.
