Air fryer usage and maintenance tips from experts

Experts and home testers are providing guidance on the optimal use and maintenance of air fryers. Philips, the original inventor of the appliance, advises against cooking certain lightweight or greasy foods to prevent issues with heat circulation and safety.

According to Philips chef Martin Senders, foods such as popcorn and poppadoms should be avoided. Popcorn kernels can be blown into the heating element, while lightweight items like poppadoms can fly around the basket, leading to uneven cooking or burning. Additionally, foods that produce excessive grease or melt quickly can disrupt air circulation and cause smoke.

Regarding maintenance, users face challenges with burnt-on grease that accumulates in the basket and drawer. While manufacturers recommend using mild detergents and soft sponges, ready-to-use cleaning sprays are being tested to tackle stubborn, cold grease more efficiently than traditional washing-up liquids.
