Air India Express rolls out new uniforms inspired by Indian textiles

Air India Express has launched new uniforms for its frontline staff, including cabin crew, airport services, aviation security, and flight operations teams. The rollout began on September 1, 2026, as part of the airline’s ongoing brand transformation and consolidation within the Air India Group.

The new attire is an extension of the airline’s ‘Tales of India’ initiative, which previously introduced aircraft tail designs inspired by indigenous crafts. The uniform designs incorporate elements from five traditional Indian textile and craft traditions: Kanjeevaram from Tamil Nadu, Pattu from Himachal Pradesh, Patola from Gujarat, Gamosa from Assam, and Bagh from Madhya Pradesh.

Rather than using traditional clothing directly, the airline has integrated these cultural influences into contemporary silhouettes. For female staff, the designs utilize elements inspired by the traditional kurti, paired with tailored jackets, scarves, and pocket squares to balance cultural authenticity with modern functionality.
