On 4 August 2026 an Air India Airbus A320neo (registration VT‑EXO) operating flight AI2379 from Phuket, Thailand, to Delhi, India, encountered severe turbulence at cruise altitude. The aircraft dropped roughly 300 feet (about 90 metres) in a matter of seconds, throwing passengers and crew against the cabin ceiling and overhead bins. Reports varied, with at least twelve and up to seventeen people – including 13 passengers and four cabin crew members – sustaining injuries; four crew members suffered spinal injuries. The pilots regained control and the aircraft landed safely at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) launched a detailed investigation, securing the flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder. Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu visited the injured in hospital and assured assistance, while the airline provided medical support and coordinated with authorities.
