Air Invictus festival generates 136 million euro impact in Portugal
The Air Invictus aeronautics festival, held in June 2026 across Northern Portugal, generated a total global impact exceeding 136 million euros, according to an evaluation by the University of Porto's Faculty of Economics (FEP). This figure combines 57.3 million euros in additional economic production with 78.8 million euros in promotional media return for the region.
The event, which spanned 15 initiatives across Porto, Vila Nova de Gaia, Maia, and Matosinhos, attracted approximately 920,000 visitors, totaling 1.54 million visits and surpassing initial expectations of one million. Notably, Matosinhos hosted a Guinness World Record for the largest drone show in Europe and the largest phrase written by drones.
International interest was significant, with mobile data showing that 8% of registered devices used foreign SIM cards, primarily from the United Kingdom, United States, Germany, and Spain. The festival's media reach is estimated to have touched over 250 million households globally via digital platforms and a documentary distributed across 20 channels in more than 100 countries. Future editions depend on positive evaluations from regional tourism authorities and the four participating municipalities, which jointly invested 5.3 million euros.
