Air New Zealand improves flight reliability and reduces cancellations
Air New Zealand reported an improvement in operational reliability for July, with 83.1 percent of flights arriving within 15 minutes of their scheduled time. This represents a 6.4 percent increase compared to July of the previous year, despite weather-related delay minutes increasing by 74 percent year-on-year.
Key improvements included a 41 percent reduction in reactionary delay minutes, which occur when one flight's delay impacts subsequent flights. This reduction meant 1,366 fewer flights were affected by knock-on delays compared to the same period last year. Additionally, total cancellations fell by 1.6 percentage points to 2.8 percent, resulting in 246 fewer cancelled flights.
Kate Boyer, Air New Zealand’s Chief Operations Officer, Ground and In-Flight, noted that international on-time performance improved by more than nine percentage points, while operations in Auckland improved by nearly 10 percentage points.
