Air Peace reports ₦2bn loss following aviation union protests

Air Peace has reported financial losses exceeding ₦2 billion following industrial action by aviation labor unions that disrupted flight operations. The airline alleges that the protests, which occurred on Tuesday, breached a 2024 Federal High Court injunction intended to prevent unions from harassing employees or compelling union membership.

According to Air Peace Chief Operating Officer Oluwatoyin Olajide, the disruption affected thousands of passengers and caused significant operational interference. The airline has called for an independent investigation into how protesters accessed sensitive airport environments and reported instances of violence against staff.

The unions involved cited two primary grievances: the airlines' indebtedness to the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority regarding the 5% Ticket Sales Charge (TSC) and the failure of airlines to unionize employees. Air Peace responded to the TSC claim by noting that the NCAA Director General has stated airlines are complying with payment directives, and maintained that its employees have voluntarily chosen not to join unions.
