Air pollution reaches hazardous levels in parts of Indonesia

Air quality across several Indonesian regions has reached unhealthy and hazardous levels due to ongoing forest and land fires. In Kalimantan, Kotawaringin Timur in Central Kalimantan recorded the worst air quality, with an Air Pollution Index (ISPU) exceeding 1,111, driven by critical PM10 parameters. Other areas in Kalimantan, including Kubu Raya, Gunung Mas, Katingan, and Southeast Pontianak, also reported hazardous or unhealthy air quality levels.

In South Sumatra, Palembang is experiencing unhealthy air conditions. Monitoring stations in Musi 2 and Talang Betutu recorded PM2.5 concentrations of 122.7 µg/m³ and 110.5 µg/m³, respectively. These levels are among the highest in the Southern Sumatra region, surpassing readings in Jambi.

The Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLH) has advised the public to avoid outdoor activities, particularly sensitive groups, due to the serious health risks posed by these pollution levels.
