Air Quality Management Moves to ESG Metrics and AI‑Driven Automation

Indoor air quality (IAQ) is shifting from a facilities‑only concern to a core component of ESG reporting. Real‑time sensor networks now track CO₂, particulate matter, VOCs and humidity, feeding data directly into building management systems. Companies such as Johnson Controls, Siemens and Honeywell are integrating these streams with AI models that predict ventilation needs, optimize energy use and improve occupant health. The technology also supports digital‑twin simulations, allowing operators to test environmental adjustments before applying them.

Industrial manufacturing facilities are applying similar principles to meet worker‑safety regulations and product‑quality standards. Primary strategies include source‑capture hoods and local exhaust ventilation, baseline air‑exchange rates set by ASHRAE and OSHA guidelines, and filtration or treatment systems such as HEPA filters, activated‑carbon adsorbers and thermal oxidizers. By combining localized capture with general ventilation and advanced monitoring, factories aim to reduce contaminant exposure, avoid citations and maintain operational efficiency.
