Air Seoul flight experiences fire suspected to be caused by power bank
A fire involving a suspected power bank occurred on an Air Seoul flight (RS511) at Incheon International Airport on the evening of September 24. The aircraft was preparing to depart for Da Nang, Vietnam, with 221 passengers and 7 crew members on board.
Smoke and flames reportedly emerged from a bag placed under a passenger seat. Crew members used bottled water and other measures to extinguish the fire before airport firefighters arrived to secure the scene. While some passengers reported respiratory discomfort due to the smoke, no serious injuries or hospitalizations were reported.
Following the incident, all passengers were evacuated for safety inspections. Air Seoul provided a replacement aircraft, and the flight eventually departed approximately 2 hours and 50 minutes behind schedule. Two passengers chose to cancel their trip, while the remaining 219 continued to Da Nang. The airline is currently investigating the exact cause and usage of the device involved.
