AirAsia co-founder discusses aviation costs with Malaysian officials
AirAsia co-founder Tony Fernandes met with officials from Malaysia’s finance and transport ministries during the week of September 28 to discuss aviation-related costs, including fuel and airport charges.
While sources suggested the meetings involved discussions regarding potential government support for the airline’s fundraising efforts due to rising jet fuel prices, Fernandes denied that financial assistance was on the table. He stated that he had not approached the government for help and expressed confidence that the airline could navigate current economic challenges without state assistance, similar to its approach during the pandemic.
Fernandes noted that while he did not request aid, the airline would not refuse assistance if offered by any government in the regions where it operates, including Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia.
