AirAsia passenger causes distress by defecating on flight to Shanghai
Passengers on AirAsia flight AK1516, traveling from Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, to Shanghai Pudong, China, reported a highly distressing incident involving a female passenger who defecated in her seat.
The incident occurred around 2:00 AM on August 19. Passengers reported that a strong, foul odor woke them from sleep. Upon investigation, it was discovered that a woman traveling with two children had relieved herself on the aircraft seat and floor, despite the lavatory being located only five meters away.
Flight attendants performed a basic cleanup using tissues and perfume, but passengers noted the smell remained overwhelming, particularly during the final 40 minutes of the flight when the air conditioning was turned off for landing. AirAsia issued a statement confirming the incident and noted that thorough cleaning and disinfection were completed after all passengers had disembarked. Some affected travelers have expressed frustration regarding the lack of compensation for the experience.
