Cristo Redentor International Pass closed due to weather

The Cristo Redentor International Pass between Mendoza, Argentina, and Chile remains closed to all vehicles, including private cars, passenger buses, and freight transport, due to adverse weather conditions in the high mountains.

Authorities from both Argentina and Chile implemented a preventive closure to ensure safety. The shutdown follows a staggered schedule: barriers at Uspallata (Argentina) and Guardia Vieja (Chile) were set to close at 10:00 PM on Sunday, with the international tunnel scheduled for closure by midnight. While domestic tourism is permitted up to Las Cuevas, travelers cannot proceed to the border complex or cross into Chile.

A new status report regarding the reopening of the corridor is expected on Tuesday, October 27, following evaluations of weather evolution and road safety by responsible agencies.
