airBaltic collective redundancy period will not be extended
The State Employment Agency (NVA) has declined a request from the Latvian Aviation Association (LAA) to extend the collective redundancy period for airBaltic from 30 to 60 days. The LAA had requested the extension, citing insufficient information and consultations as required by labor laws and EU directives.
According to airBaltic, the planned workforce reduction could affect between 500 and 700 employees out of approximately 3,000, with impacts across bases in Riga, Tallinn, and Vilnius. The LAA represents more than 30% of the airline's pilots and cabin crew. While the NVA found no legal grounds for an exception to extend the timeline, it stated it remains ready to provide necessary support to the affected employees.
