AirBaltic seeks extra funding amid fears of reduced Tallinn flights

Latvian carrier AirBaltic has announced that it needs additional financing to sustain its operations. The airline currently operates 29 routes from Tallinn, including recent connections to Hamburg, Vienna and Athens. Estonian officials warn that without a new cash injection the airline may cut services, which would hurt the capital’s air links.

Eero Pärgmäe, a board member of Tallinn Airport, said AirBaltic is a “very important partner” for the airport, while Ministry of Climate Affairs deputy secretary Sander Salmu stressed the strategic significance of keeping the carrier afloat. Both stressed the need for a stable solution together with the Latvian government to avoid over‑reliance on a single carrier.

Travel experts advise passengers purchasing AirBaltic tickets to add a supplemental travel‑insurance policy that covers airline insolvency, as standard policies typically do not provide such protection.
