Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky predicts AI consumer revolution

Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky described artificial intelligence as a ‘cognitive revolution’ during the Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference. He noted that while AI is currently driving significant results in corporate operations and internal efficiencies, the major transformation for consumer-facing applications is expected to become more visible within the next 18 to 24 months.

Chesky compared the potential of AI to nuclear energy, stating it is neither inherently good nor bad, but its impact depends on how humanity utilizes it. He suggested that much of the economic value generated by AI will eventually stem from consumer applications rather than just corporate software, GPU infrastructure, or data centers. He characterized the current era as the beginning of a ‘thousand-year’ revolution.

At Airbnb, AI is already being integrated into customer service, with approximately half of service requests now being handled by AI systems. These systems analyze thousands of past cases to provide resolution suggestions for disputes between guests and hosts, particularly in complex, multilingual support scenarios.
