Airbnb guest investigated for furniture theft in Santa Catarina

The Civil Police of Santa Catarina are investigating a woman suspected of stealing and selling furniture from an Airbnb rental in Balneário Rincão. The owner reported that items including beds, a sofa, a television, a washing machine, and a refrigerator were taken. While the stolen goods were valued at approximately R$ 17,000, the suspect reportedly sold them for R$ 3,800.

Investigators tracked the suspect through a Pix transfer made by the buyer. Some of the furniture was recovered at a used goods store in Içara, and the individual who purchased the items has been charged with negligent receiving.

During the investigation, the woman's parents informed police that they had previously filed a report against her regarding fraudulent loans taken out in her mother's name. Airbnb has suspended the suspect's account and stated that its Host Damage Protection can cover losses of up to US$ 3 million in cases of theft or damage.
