Airbnb introduces weather insurance and updates check-out policies

Airbnb is expanding its service offerings through a new partnership with insurer Chubb to provide parametric weather insurance. Available in ten European countries, including Germany, the insurance automatically triggers payouts between 50 and 1,000 euros if rainfall exceeds a contractually defined meteorological threshold. Unlike traditional insurance that requires proof of financial loss, this parametric model relies on objectively measurable weather data to compensate guests for trips significantly impacted by rain.

Separately, Airbnb is implementing new rules regarding guest responsibilities during check-out, effective November 20. The company will prohibit hosts from requiring guests to perform tasks that involve extensive effort or time, such as washing dishes or stripping bed linens. While many travelers have welcomed the change, some hosts have expressed frustration, with some calling for a boycott of the platform. Airbnb stated the policy change aims to make house rules clearer and less burdensome for the community.
