Airbnb expands travel platform with AI tools, hotels and services ahead of 2026 FIFA World Cup

Airbnb announced a major expansion of its platform to become a full‑service travel marketplace. New in‑trip services include grocery delivery through Instacart in more than 25 U.S. cities, airport pickups via Welcome Pickups in over 160 cities worldwide, and luggage storage through Bounce in 175 cities. The company also plans to launch car rentals directly in the app later this summer.

The firm is adding thousands of boutique and independent hotels in 20 major destinations such as New York, Paris, London, Madrid, Rome and Singapore, and is broadening its Experiences catalogue to over 3,000 landmark‑based activities. Football‑themed experiences linked to the 2026 FIFA World Cup will run in six host cities, featuring former players Abby Wambach, Julie Foudy and Javier Mascherano.

Airbnb introduced AI‑powered features that generate review summaries, compare properties, help plan shared itineraries and provide multilingual customer support, with voice‑enabled tools slated for later rollout. CEO Brian Chesky said the effort aims to make travel “more meaningful” and to support users from planning through stay.
