Airbnb shares rise 9% following strong second-quarter earnings
Airbnb reported second-quarter financial results that exceeded analyst expectations, leading to a 9% increase in its share price during after-hours trading. Revenue for the quarter reached $3.1 billion, representing a 17% year-over-year increase, while net income rose to $816 million compared to $642 million in the previous year.
Key performance indicators showed growth across multiple metrics. Bookings grew by 10%, and the average nightly price increased by 5% to $183.73. The company’s gross booking value rose 16% to $27.2 billion. Regional growth was noted globally, with particularly strong expansion in the Asia-Pacific market and approximately 20% bookings growth in Latin America, specifically in Brazil and Mexico.
Looking forward, Airbnb provided optimistic guidance for the third quarter, projecting revenue between $4.69 billion and $4.77 billion. The company is also diversifying its business model by expanding services such as Airbnb Experiences, car rentals, food delivery, and luggage storage to increase revenue per booking.
