Airbnb tourism generates 15.7 million euros in Piedmont
Airbnb guests generated 15.7 million euros in tourism spending across Piedmontese municipalities with fewer than 30,000 inhabitants last year. This data, compiled by The European House – Ambrosetti for Airbnb, highlights the economic impact of short-term rentals on smaller, less-visited villages.
Among towns with fewer than 5,000 residents, Montecrestese in the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola province led the ranking, generating over 62,800 euros in tourism spending. Other notable beneficiaries include Locana, Ornavasso, Calosso, and Pontestura.
Domestic tourism remains a primary driver for these destinations, with Italian travelers accounting for 74% of guests, while international visitors represent 26%. For many of these small communities, the platform provides essential accommodation options that help make local heritage and landscapes accessible to travelers.
