Airbus A330 MRTT+ completes first assembly in Toulouse

The first Airbus A330 MRTT+ has exited the final assembly line in Toulouse, marking the debut of a new generation of the manufacturer’s tanker and transport platform. Based on the A330-800 variant of the A330neo family, this upgraded model features Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, optimized wing aerodynamics, and new winglets.

These technical enhancements are designed to improve operational efficiency, including an estimated 8% reduction in fuel consumption, lower CO2 and NOx emissions, and reduced noise pollution. The aircraft also features a modernized cabin design and an increased maximum takeoff weight of 242 tonnes, providing greater range and operational flexibility.

The Royal Thai Air Force is the launch customer for this variant. Before final delivery, which is expected in 2029, the aircraft will undergo military conversion at the Airbus Defence and Space center in Getafe, Spain. This process will equip the airframe with the Airbus Aerial Refuelling Boom System and hose-and-drogue refueling equipment.
