Airbus A340 destroyed by fire at Turkish aviation center
A retired Airbus A340 aircraft was destroyed by a fire on Saturday, September 5, at the UçakPark Aviation and Science Center in Çayırova, Kocaeli province, Turkey. The aircraft, registration TC-JDL, had previously flown for Turkish Airlines for over two decades after being delivered in 1994.
During the blaze, the aircraft's rear fuselage lost structural integrity, causing the tail to collapse onto firefighting vehicles. Local authorities, including Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Hasan Soba, reported that all guests and staff were safely evacuated and no injuries occurred. While the fire was brought under control, the aircraft sustained extensive damage. Preliminary reports suggest the fire may have been caused by an electrical short circuit.
