Airbus reaches preliminary agreement with unions to end Spanish strike
Airbus has reached a preliminary agreement with four unions—UGT, ATP, CCOO, and SIPA—to resolve a labor dispute that has triggered an indefinite strike in its Spanish plants for 35 days. The agreement, facilitated by Spanish Minister of Industry and Tourism Jordi Hereu, aims to address wage concerns and working conditions.
The proposal includes measures to recover lost purchasing power, with an estimated increase of 7.6% through 2030, alongside improvements in employee mobility, dining services, and work flexibility. Minister Hereu noted that the unions supporting the deal represent more than 80% of the Airbus workforce in Spain, describing the pact as a significant step for the company’s industrial stability.
However, the resolution remains subject to a binding referendum among all employees. The process has seen internal friction, as the UGT union has denied signing any formal agreement, stating that the proposal must first be debated in an assembly. Additionally, the CGT and ÚTIL unions, which are part of the strike committee, were not included in the final negotiations.
