Airbus leads new E2D European defense technology fund
Airbus Defence and Space has signed an agreement to become the lead investor in E2D, a new European defense technology growth fund. The initiative was formalized during the Farnborough International Airshow in late July.
Launched by venture capital firms AVP and Earlybird, the fund aims to raise 500 million euros to support high-tech companies across Europe. The investment is designed to strengthen European sovereignty and address critical capability gaps by providing growth capital to companies specializing in dual-use and defense technologies.
The fund intends to invest in approximately 20 companies, with an average investment of 25 million euros per firm. Target sectors include space, air, land, maritime, and sub-surface technologies, focusing on areas such as artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, cybersecurity, advanced sensors, and secure communications. This move aims to help emerging companies transition from research and development to large-scale industrial production while keeping critical intellectual property and talent within the continent.
