Airbus manages technical investigation and labor strike risks

Airbus is navigating a combination of technical investigations and labor tensions. The company has dispatched specialists to India to investigate an incident involving an Air India A320 that experienced a loss of altitude on August 4. Preliminary analysis suggests the aircraft lost central flight control functions for approximately four seconds due to a pressure drop in all three hydraulic systems. Airbus has requested that Air India inspect hydraulics, sensors, switches, and wiring to determine if the issue is an isolated maintenance matter or a broader systemic concern.

Operationally, Airbus reported delivering 67 commercial aircraft in July, bringing its year-to-date total to 418. The company also secured a significant order for over 100 A320neo aircraft from SMBC Aviation.

However, industrial action poses a risk to production targets. In Getafe, Spain, the CCOO union has threatened an indefinite strike starting after September 7 if negotiations do not reach a resolution. Previous strikes at the site have already caused delays in inspections and technical checks necessary for aircraft deliveries. With an annual delivery target of approximately 870 aircraft, the company faces pressure to maintain momentum through the second half of the year.
