Airbus moves 70 critical apps from AWS to European cloud provider Scaleway

Airbus will migrate around 70 critical applications—including aircraft design tools, production systems, ERP and lifecycle management—from Amazon Web Services to the European sovereign cloud provider Scaleway. The move is intended to keep data under European jurisdiction and protect it from U.S. extraterritorial laws such as the Cloud Act. Airbus plans to extend the migration to up to 900 applications over the next five to six years while maintaining collaborations with AWS, Microsoft, Google and other vendors for non‑critical workloads.

The selection of Scaleway was made through a tender that scored providers on technical capability, operational excellence and, notably, legal safeguards against foreign extraterritorial legislation. Airbus executive vice‑president Catherine Jestin highlighted the decision as a step toward European digital sovereignty, ensuring that critical data remains shielded from foreign legal interference.
